This book contains four unpublished texts on the clothing industry that dominated Hebden Bridge for much of the twentieth century. The main text is a thesis compiled by Tom Greenwood in 1982 as part of his Diploma in Labour Studies at Ruskin College, Oxford. Complementing this are the writings of two earlier commentators on the industry. Sam Moore, writing around 1913, paints a very informative picture of what life was like in Hebden Bridge in the early twentieth century. Moore is writing as a reporter on the society and economy of the place and period in which he lived. A piece written by George Hall Greenwood describes his experiences of working for the English Fustian Manufacturing Company while a report produced by the management of Moss Bros illustrates the issues facing the clothing trade at the beginning of the 1960s.
